Double Decker Brownies

Mom's Brownies


1/3Cup Crisco
1   Cup sugar
¼  Teaspoon salt
2   Eggs
1/2        Teaspoon vanilla
2   Square baking chocolate melted or 1/3 cup cocoa
2/3Cup sifted flour
1/3Cup finely chopped nuts (if desired)

Blend together Crisco, sugar, salt, eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy. Stir in melted chocolate. Add flour. If cocoa is used, sift with flour and add to batter. Stir in nuts. Spread in 2 sq 8 inch pans lined with oiled paper. Bake in moderate oven 350°, 15 to 20 minutes. When partially cool, remove from pans. Spread almond cream filling on one layer and place other layer on top. Cut into Squares.
                                 Almond Cream Filling
Blend together until creamy 1 tablespoon hot milk, 1 teaspoon Crisco, ¼ teaspoon almond extract, and 1 cup confectioners sugar. All measurements level.
